Porcelain veneers, or dental veneers, are a cosmetic procedure for helping you achieve the smile that you deserve. These thin durable shells go over your natural teeth, essentially replacing them. The complete veneer process takes between 2-3 appointments with Dr. Bernstein. At your first appointment or consultation, you will discuss what you want your veneers to achieve. There are many different options and choices when it comes to veneers. It is recommended that you do some individual research before your appointment. That way, you’ll have a better idea of what it is you want. The two major choices for veneers are shape and color. In terms of shape, there are rounded veneers and square veneers. Some patients believe that rounded teeth are more feminine, while square teeth are more masculine. This is not at all true. Either shape is available regardless of gender. Color dictates the shading or brightness of the veneers. You can choose from a more natural white to Hollywood levels of brightness. Once you have made your decisions, the next part of the process can start.


 


Next, your teeth will be prepared for the veneer placement. This just consists of a simple cleaning procedure. After this is completed, an impression or mold will be taken of your teeth. This impression will be what your custom made veneers are made from. Doing so allows your veneers to fit perfectly. The impression will be sent to a dental laboratory, where it will take between 10-14 days to complete. In the meantime, a temporary set of veneers will be given to you. At your final appointment, Dr. Bernstein will bond your permanent veneers to your teeth.

Dental Avulsion - Traumatic Tooth Loss

During the summer, people tend to be more active outdoors and may be at greater risk for dental injuries. While nobody ever plans to get a tooth knocked out, we at Bernstein Dental Care thought it would be a good idea to remind our patients of what steps they can take during a dental emergency to have the best chance of preserving their teeth. When a tooth is knocked out entirely, we call that a “dental avulsion.” The tooth should be lifted by its crown, never its root. There are American Dental Association-approved tooth transport containers that will hopefully be available in a nearby first aid kit, but if not, the tooth should be rinsed with a saline solution. It should then be reinserted into the empty socket, with care to ensure it is facing the right way. Beat Bad Breath
